THE GOAT HOUSE - “The Goat House” is actually just a name used for a specific group of friends of mine. What just started out as a name for a WhatsApp group chat and was a reference to the TV show Blue Mountain State (which secretly I have never seen, sorry guys) ended up becoming a collective name for our friendship group.
With these people being my close friends it does mean now and then I would do little personal projects that include this group of people and this is what this page is here to show.
For the first image of “Cory and Charlie do Japan” a little context is needed. Me and my friend Cory decided to go and move to Japan for 1 year and work as English teachers. It was a really interesting job and one of the best years of my life. The teaching job was 1-1 lessons with adults and this meant quite often throughout my work week I would end up with lessons that would be cancelled or that students wouldn't show up to. In one of these little free periods I just started doodling in a notebook I had and noticed it looked a little like a Mike Judge character. That’s where I went down the rabbit hole a little and ended up sketching myself and my friend Cory which was a complete parody of the Mike Judge film “Beavis and Butthead Do America” (that’s what you can see in the second image). Once back from Japan, I bought myself a digital drawing pad so I could make that sketch into an actual digitalized drawing as a moment for me and my friend.
I thought it turned out really great and it was a project I had a lot of fun with so I showed it to the rest of our friendship group. Well, this is where the petition began for me to replicate the project but to include all 12 of us. Well, the reason I came home from Japan when I did was because of the COVID-19 pandemic so as it turned out I had quite a bit of spare time on my hands so I obliged and created the full “The Goat House” image you can see on image 3. A very frustrating project at times as I’ve never really tried this kind of caricature-type art before and it was the first ever project I made with a digital drawing pad but it was very fun and well received by my friends.
The last two images are just very small little personal projects I did for the group as well. The goat head picture just came from a fun conversation about how fun it would be to open a pub together with all of our friends after leaving university so I created a little logo for said imaginary pub. The final picture is a really fun photograph that was taken after we all graduated from University and were on the way to the graduation ball. It was always a picture I really loved of me and my friends so I decided to make a pixel version of it for a bit of fun.
